We have recently purchased our first caravan. It is a fairly old one to try out to see if we like caravanning. We have disscovered we do. We would now like to buy an awning but we would like a Sunncamp Scenic Porch awning.

Our caravan is an Elddis Wisp 440 and the door of the caravan is near the front. Just above the door the roof of the caravan begins to slop downwards towards the front of the caravan and is flat and straight towards the back of the caravan. We would obviously like to fit the awning above the door but on all the pictures I have seen of this awning it is attached to the straight part of the caravan awning rail.

Has anyone fitted this type of awning to a caravan where it would have to fit to an awning rail where part of it would be sloping?

Thank you

Jenny

Jennifer, we have exactly the same thing with our caravan. When we bought our Scenic Plus, we decided that the only solution was to position it next to the door, rather than over it. This gave us the extra space for eating out, storing furniture etc, but no shelter from the elements over the door. Last weekend, we decided to just try it over the door, not expecting that it would fit. To our surprise, it worked perfectly well. The door can JUST be opened fully, with about a centimetre gap between the door-edge and the awning roof, but that happens with our full awning, too. I can't guarantee that it will work on your 'van, but I think you might just be lucky, too. They really are super little awnings!

Chrissie,

Many thanks for your reply. I think we shall go ahead and buy one. My husband has said that he thinks it would be ok. There is only about 12-15 inches of sloping roof and where we would like to position the porch there is only a drop of about 4-6 inches. Our concern was that the whole thing would sag. Failing that, then I think your idea of having it next to the door rather than over it is worth a try.

Just beware windy conditions. Mine failed in a light wind and damaged my caravan. When i contacted Towsure and SunnCamp i was told that they are for fair weather only and should be taken down in the wind! i know another user that has had an identicle problem.

Sad really because they are convenient, but not strong enough for this time of the year.
