hello i own a Peugeot 206 2 litre sw, when we attact the caravan which is only 610 kg there is very little ground clearance, we have been informed by a mechanic we are unable to attach spring assisters to the rear suspension as it is a torsion bar set up, is there any other way to raise the suspension, can anyone please advise us.

Is the towball height right in the first place? It should be between 350 and 420mm measured to the centre of the towball when the car is fully laden. If it's below that there is something wrong either with the towbar (wrong type) or with the car.

Self levelling shock absorbers should solve the problem.

With such a light caravan it sounds like you have too much noseweight and/or too much weight in the boot, I personally do not support the theory that placing all the heavy items in the car improves stability by improving the weight ratio, I have had some cars that handle like a pig with weight in the boot. Try putting some heavy items over the axle of the caravan, if there are no rear passengers in the car, place heavy stuff in the rear footwell or as far forward as possible, otherwise it may be possible to fit spring assisted dampers
