Big county, big question. If the sun if shining, then any part of Sussex is nice. Personally I like anywhere near the South Downs. My own highlights and lowlights are as follows:

Very nice - Rye, Chichester, Horsham (I live there!), Arundel

Quaint - Eastbourne, East Grinstead, Petworth, Steyning

OK - Lewes, Haywards Heath, Midhurst

Too busy - Brighton

Not so nice - Hastings, Littlehampton, Bognor, Crawley, Newhaven

Good sandy beaches - Camber, Littlehampton West Beach, Wittering/Bracklesham Bay

If I had to pick a single place, it would be Chichester. Excellent shops, loads of campsites, cathedral, close to A27, near the Downs, 7 miles from the coast, loads of restaurants etc.

Forgot to say that Chichester harbour is one of the biggest anywhere, and includes a huge nature reserve. The area is good for walking, cycling, running etc. Go north and it's hilly, any other direction is flat.

There is a C & CC site 7 miles away at Southbourne, and several commercial sites or CLs closer than that.

Hi

We're going to Graffham CCC for the long Easter weekend. It's not far from the lovely park at Petworth which is a really quaint place with a nice restaurnt or two. Midhurst is worth a look too. We're doing a 100km cycle ride from there om Easter Monday. The site's suppose to be really quite but with good access to other places. We're going into London to a Folk Concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Easter Sunday, and there's a really interesting outdoor museum not far away from the site as well. Its also only a short drive or even a day out on bicycles down to the coast aswell. Have a great time wherever you choose.

Yes, Graffham is a really nice village and very quiet. It has 2 pubs, a fairly good shop, little church at the foot of the downs etc.

The site is excellent. Take a good torch with you - I have been on some of the more remote pitches and not been able to see my hand in front of my face in the evening. I am not exaggerating. Many of the pitches are in their own little clearing in the woods. You may need a few chocks and blocks as most pitches are on a slope.

Thanks Mike P

Pleased you think like that about Graffham. We know the area a bit because we've stayed in River (about a mile from the site) a few times becausewe have friends there but we have never taken the caravan to Sussex before. We usually have head torches with us as well as lights on the the bikes and tandem so thats no hardship.

Hello Jayne, We stayed at the CC site in Brighton (Sheepcote Valley) last year and had a great time. We really enjoyed Brighton as well as exploring the coast of East and West Sussex. I was really pleased that we chose that particular site...usual CC high standards. Best Wishes, George T.
