Swift challenger tyre pressure

Hi.Can anyone tell me the correct tyre pressure for my 1999 swift challenger 530 se.

Normally in or around 60 psi, but there should be a plate on the side, near the door, with weights, pressure`s etc.

Thanks Anthony.I can't remember seeing the tyre pressure on the plate but will have a look next week when i pick my van up from the storage site.I have found a 2000 brochure on the swift site and this gives a pressure of 54.The challenger caravans of this year are heavier than my caravan so i guess the pressure should be about this figure or slightly less.

I had a 1992 challenger 440/4 which had 52psi, have you tried posting on swift talk site?

You need to be careful here as the caravan is over 10 years old.....

How long have you owned it?

Has it been fitted with replacement tyres before you purchased it?

Are they of the correct specification?

Are they original and likely to need changing due to age?

You need to know the maximum laden weight of your caravan,

This will be on the plate.

Check the maximum load the tyres fitted can carry, this will be marked on the tyre.

Multiply the number of tyres your caravan has by this figure and this should be more than the maximum laden weight of your caravan.

If it is not then a previous owner has fitted the wrong tyres!

Find the tyres you have fitted from the tables, then work out the maximum weight of your caravan (axle load) and read off the correct cold tyre inflation pressure.

Thanks for the replies.I've had the caravan for 1 year now,and the dealer fitted new tyres to the van.I think i'll try the swift talk site to see what they can suggest.

However since I happen to know the maximum weight of your caravan is around 1260 kgs

If you post again the size of tyre the dealer fitted.. Most likely 175 R13 C

Then I will read off the pressure you should use from the above table for you.

Swift will only tell you the same thing.

In common with other manufactures, they only ever quote tyre pressures for the tyres they fit as original equipment.

They would need to know what tyres are fitted now!

Hi.Sorry i haven't replied,but i've been away.I e-mailed Swift and they said that the pressure for my van is 50 psi at a max weight of 1300.

Sounds good to me. My van is a Challenger 480 Se year 2000 and 50psi is what my tyres are. Ken

I had a customer turn up yesterday with van in tow! not something I encourage you understand,

Anyway, the van was an early 90's Elddis and one of the 175x13C 8ply tyres looked soft, customer protested it's 36psi and he got the pressure from the handbook which he duly showed me.

Problem was the stated pressure was to suit 6ply tyres of the same size and some 4psi less than it should be, not a lot in this case but makes an important point

That is, first it's no good at all asking on here for the correct pressure for this or that van, only if weight of van and exactly what tyres are fitted can a reasonably accurate answer be given.

Second, when checking pressures in handbooks, make doubly sure the tyres quoted EXACTLY match those fitted to the van!
