I have a Swift Conquerer 540 with an on board water tank which fills up every time i connect it to the water main, is there a way to bypass it as when we go away foe just a couple of das we seem to have to waste a lot of water filling it up then draining it down.surely there is a way of just using the external water butt. Any help would be welcome.

Yes if you have an on board water tank your pump will be the diaphram type, like the whale. There should be 2 blue levers in the piping system in front of the pump, if i remember right they both should be facing away from you towards the side of the van for them to bypass the water tank and too draw water straight from the water butt. There should be i diagram situated on the front seat drop down flap, where the pump is housed that shows you the different ways they can be turned for different combinations.

It all depends what year your van is?
I have a sterling elite searcher, (Swift) if i dont want to use the inboard tank, there is a button on the electrical control/fuse box under the front seating, it allows you to switch on/off the tank fill.
If it is in the off position, you pump directly from the external water supply. (aquaroll)
my van is a 2010 model, but i am certain the swift model is exactly the same,

I suppose thats the same as the bailey senetors they have a toggle switch on the control pannel to use the tank or aquaroll
From looking at the latest offerings from swift and bailey, and from reading the posts above it appears that once again the caravan industry has gone backwards?
For £18000 plus now you are expected to get down on your knees and prat about with levers or switches?
While on my 2004 senator all i do select inboard or outboard via a selector switch a waist level, as mentioned above.
This "old" system has the benefit of a separate pump for each tank, so if your pump fails you simply switch over.
More than once i have been caught part way through a shower only for the tank to empty, sloppy maybe, but a call to her in doors and it is sorted with a flick of a switch.
Now i can visualise the nightmare of trying to explain which position she needs to place the lever/levers in, the water drain lever position often confuses!
And now the capacity of the on board tanks have shrunk, what is the next improvement?
