Would you be interested if Swift made a Charisma or Challenger with decent sized fixed twin beds, an end washroom, on a single axle, without compromising the seating area?

Hi meals on wheels

This would be my ideal caravan. I entered the recent Bailey caravan design competion with this layout, but sadly, didn't win. They did announce that this type of layout had been mentioned by several entrants so we are obviously not alone. I would even sacrifice the seating area for two good recliner chairs if everything else was in there.

Meals on Wheels,

I have a Swift Conqueror 655 2007 twin axle. The only minor downside is that it has an L-shape front end, .

It has good sized fixed twin beds and a good sized end washroom. It also has 2 wardrobes, a large double doored one in the main body of the caravan and a good sized half lentgh one with shelves below in the rear washroom.Excellent for touring for 4 plus weeks. We love this layout as we both have to go to the you know what at least a couple of times a night. It avoids disturbing the other half as it did in the previous fixed bed caravan. I would like to see this layout in a Conqueror or Challenger on a single axle, which would enable a wider variety of towcar.I would prefer parralel bunks but as there are only the two of us an L-shape would be acceptable. For some reason Swift only made this model for 2 years.

Chrissylizzie, it's interesting that you mentioned sacrificing the seating area for two good quality recliner chairs.

We have the very comfortable Ekornes 'Stressless' recliners at home, instead of armchairs and we recently said it would be great if we could have something like them in the caravan.

Perhaps this and twin beds is something the Swift design team could consider for the future.

When I was looking to buy our first van recently, I looked at some German websites and the layout you describe is surprisingly common in German vans. I can't remember which brands (I wasn't interested in that layout) but there were lots of them...

Hi meals on wheels

It is precisely something like the Stressless that I had in mind. As there are only the two of us, a good recliner would fit the bill. Do you have loads of money as we could put together, design this van, build it, make a fortune then travel the world!! OK - wishful thinking really.

End washrooms are not that common on the Continent, Neil. I suggested that type of layout to my wife before we bought the caravan that we have just taken delivery of, but she threw the idea out because she wanted windows on all 3 sides of the bedroom.

A few years ago we saw a caravan like ours - Swift Speedbird, based on the Swift Toscane (Dutch model)- and the owner had removed the bench seating at the front, and installed two Stressless Recliners on circular feet but screwed to the floor, two footrests, and then a coffee table between the chairs. He'd made a really good job of it - and it looked a quality conversion. He'd also put down a light wood-look vinyl floor covering - and it made a lovely lounge area.

They had some folding chairs and cushions for any visitors, and there was actually loads of room. They must have always eaten out in the awning though, as there was no room for the 'dining' table inside the van.

That was exactly my 'vision' Val. Had he fixed singles and end washroom in the rest of the 'van? I had thought that there might be room for the front chest with the slide out top which would be enough to eat on, as we do now.

No, it was a side fixed bed with washroom at the side. We had a look around lots of caravans at the NEC and though there were some with single beds, and some with an end washroom, we didn't see one which combined both - or not that I can remember. However, they all blur into one another when you've been around the various stands!

The Hymer Nova 580 has twin beds/ end washroom on a single axle.

It has a U-shaped front lounge. The door seems to be on the continental side, Lowdham caravans are agents for Hymer and would know if you can order one with a door on nearside.

All information on Hymer UK web site.
