Swift warranty work not up to scratch

Does anyone know what I need to do next. Bought a new Swift Challenger 540 in June 2009. On our main holiday in July found hairlines cracks down the left side of the shower. To cut a long story short, this has been 'repaired' through the warranty. I was assured that you wouldn't be able to tell that any work had been done but this is not the case. It is pretty obvious as you can now see joins where a new panel has been fitted. I will be contacting the dealer again in the morning but was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what are my rights. Looking forward to your replies. Helen.

Lets clear up a slight misquote. There is an important difference between warranty and Guarantee. You warranty exists between you and the seller and is a legal requirement under the Sale of Goods Act.

The manufacture only offers a guarantee, and that is not a legal requirement, but most manufactures do offer one, and even extensions which are actually insurance policies.

The cracks in the shower tray should not have happened providing the caravan has not been misused. As this has happened within a few months of you owning it, there should be little trouble in convincing the supplier there is a fault. This should be repaired under the terms of the warranty.

A warranty repair should leave the customer with a product that is of no less value or effectiveness than if the fault had not occurred.

If the repair is substandard, then the repairer has also fallen foul of the sale of Goods act by not providing producte or service of merchantable standard.

Write to the seller, tell them that you are not ivied with the workmanship, and ask them what they are going to do about it. If they don't provide a satisfactory answer including a time scale for the work to be done, seek professional legal advice..

Hi John, thanks for you reply. The cracks were down the left panel of the shower where they have placed a section of panel over the top and sealed the edges. The problem is that you can see the seal (about 2 inches each side at the top and right bottom). I was assured that you wouldn't be able to see it. I am waiting for the dealer to return my call. I shall let you know what happens. Helen.

I am certain that at this point you should be only using written communications to avoid the possibility that something may be said on the phone but later denied.
