my new van has a multi directional t.v aerial on which is linked to a booster( both status), I have been away several times this year and each time failed to get a good signal. Can anyone give me some advice?
thanks for your reply john I will look at the website you recommendHi Steve - swap it now for a directional aerial. I have had several vans with multi-directional aerials - all c**p! My current van has a Status 530 directional aerial and gives far superior picture quality - am very impressed. Easy to use also. I think it uses the same power pack/amplifier as the 315 omnidirectional.

Hope this helps.

Steve, I too have had a similar set up to what damian is describing and yes they work great. However, I was amazed - as I know other forum users have been - with the quality of reception obtained from the 530, even in relatively poor reception areas. Lasttime I used it it powered 2 TV's - front and rear, including Freeview reception.Hi John,
I have been looking on the website you gave me. The aerial I have is the one that you currently have on your van. I can't seem to get a good picture at all with it. I have tried it at all angles all heights and with the (what I assume are) radio aerials in and out.
Anything else I should be doing?
Steve
Thanks for all your comments, how do the satelite systems work and what type of equipment do I need? Is it expensive?Keith I am surprised that your directional aerial is not as good as the omnidirectioal.
It might be worth checking the coax plug connectors .
Ours is far superior but not as good as Sky
Hi John, our main problem seems to be when setting up the TV on the 530 aerial,I am wondering whether it is possible to get some sort of meter that will plug in to the aerial socket in the van that will then indicate the strongest signal when we are turning the 530 around. We are even thinking of changing the TV even though it works fine at home. The only advice from our dealer is to look and see which direction everybody else has pointed their aerial and do the same. Is there an easy way to set up the TV on a 530 directional aerial. We have sometimes no bothered with the TV if only away for a weekend, its been that bad.Keith I am surprised that your directional aerial is not as good as the omnidirectioal.

I suspect that you either have a faulty booster or some aerial wiring is faulty. Aerial wiring faults are apparently quite common on new vans - shoddy connections. Check these first. If you normally get good reception at home then next time your van is on the drive point the 530 in the same direction as house aerial and see what reception you get. If the picture is good then there's no fault. Bye the way - you have turned on the booster and/or inserted power plug haven't you. A red light should be visible when on. Also check that the switch is set to "normal".
Good luck!
John
