Tabbert 4 wheeler

Hi again everyone

I think i have found a caravan its called a tabbert

Wondered if anyone has had any dealing with this make in the past

Its going to be a bit of a rebuild job though

However the caravan dose have cooker, sink, gas rings, a fridge and a heater

Don't know about the bathroom toilet area though as I cant see any plumbing in there

Wear would I find the gas bottle storage compartment on this caravan and 12 Volt and 240 Volt supply

And do you think this caravan has a water tank and a water pump or do you just plug a hose in from the mains

Wear on this caravan (if any) should the boiler be

It might be wise first to check if its wider than 2.3 meters most are; if so you can't tow it legally with any UK car nor on a UK car driving licence.

Apart from the important issue that JTQ pointed out, the gas bottle storage compartment will be in the front locker, like most other caravans. As Tabbert is a German make and German caravans don't normally have a battery, it's best to check whether it was ever fitted with one, (especially if it was a 'grey' import). I think all Tabberts, at least those of later years, have an on board water tank. It is unlikely, however, that it has provisions for connecting mains water supply unless fitted later by a previous owner.

Where the boiler is depends on the layout of this specific caravan.

With regards to its width

Ever heard of wide loads with red and white wide load plates on the side

is the front locker near the tow hitch

Wear would I find the 12V supply wire

And wear do you think the on board water tank is situated

Regardless of whether you've got red and white wide load plates on the side or not (actually, they aren't required), it is still illegal to tow anything wider than 2.3m in the UK with a vehicle that has a GVW of less than 3.5 tonnes. This rules out pretty well everything except a truck or at least a very large van.

If you haven't got an owner's handbook, the model designation should be on the manufacturer's identification plate. As this plate also must state the weights and these are important in order to know whether the caravan is within the legal towing limits for the towcar, it is essential to find these details(usually the plate is somewhere on the A-frame or inside or below the front gas bottle storage compartment.

A word of warning, however. Unless it is a relatively old twin axle Tabbert, built in the days when their smaller models also had twin axles, it is very likely that the caravan will be illegal to tow with a normal car in the UK.

i think there is a plate weight on the tow hitch

will that tell me the make and model

Ian has given little information other than it's a twin axle Tabbert so it's not possible to say whether it has a waste water tank or not (some models do, some don't). If the plate that he has found is a Tabbert one and not the chassis manufacturer's, it should at least give some details to help identify the model and its age.

That is not the caravan manufacturer's, i.e. Tabbert's, vehicle plate, but the type approval plate of the hitch itself. There must be another plate somewhere on the caravan. Usually, it is in the middle, below the front locker or inside it.

According to the data that I have, a Tabbert 710TD is 2.47m wide and is therefore definitely illegal to tow behind a normal towcar in the UK. Being a 1990 model it is, however, too old for me to find details of its interior layout so I cannot tell you where the water tank or waste tank is. Best to just follow the pipes that run underneath the caravan to find out.
