I have a T@B the quirky little caravan which is manufactured by Tabbert. It will need its first service next year but the supplying dealer does not have service facilities- he just sells them. I have emailed Tabbert in Germany and their service centre in the UK asking for a an authorised service agent. To date no response. Does anyone know of a Tabbert dealer with servicing facilties in the Bristol area or can you recommend a dealer with a good service reputation in this area?

Hi Morganic,

There is no need to use a Tabbert dealer to service your caravan. Any good dealer should be able to provide the necessary service facilities, without affecting your warranty

Thank you John L for the information. Tabbert have now replied giving me details of dealers the nearest being 90 miles away. I have enquired if I can get the T@B serviced by an approved workshop which is 7 miles away.I hope they will agree as I want to keep the warranty valid. Does anyone else have any experience of getting servicing done by a non franchise workshop?

To ad to John L's advice, suggest you make sure the sercive centre you use is part of the NCC/CC Approved Workshop scheme, as then it should have received thrid-party quality assurance assessment and you will have some additional back-up in the event of subsequent problems.

Thanks Ray S.The one I have in mind is member of the NCC/CC scheme. Tabbert have given me dealers which frankly are too far away to use.Has anyone had any problems with getting servicing done at a non franchise dealership/service centre?

With only a few exceptions. Most dealers will be happy to do service work, BUT. They may give priority to customers who have purchased from them, with others being pushed down the priority list for their workshop time.

You might consider a mobile engineer who can do the work at your house. Most service jobs can be carried out on a drive-way. The mobile engineers can often work out more economical and certainly more convenient.

Make sure the engineer can and will stamp the service book, preferably with a a company stamp rather than just a signature.

Thanks John L

I have just heard from Tabbert in Germany. They advise me to take my caravan to a Tabbert dealer- a round trip of 180 miles!! I found out that the motor industry was faced with a similar problem with new car warranties and non franchise serving. The Office of Fair Trading ruled that you don't need to take your car to a franchised dealer to get it it serviced providing original equipment parts are used.

Perhaps the same could apply to caravans?Anyway Tabbert are a member of the NCC so frankly I don't think they should be able to create a fuss if I get the servicing undertaken at an approved NCC workshop. Thanks once again for the advice
