Taking dogs on holiday to Austria

Has anyone ever taken their pet dog to Austria on holiday? I have read somewhere they need to wear a muzzle if travelling on public transport ie. trains/cablecars or in crowded areas, does anyone know if this is true. Would appreciate any feedback.
 
Yes, I can confirm that the Austrians require a muzzle when dogs are taken on public transport, including cable cars.
 
I took my dog to Austria in July and didn't see any dogs muzzled anywhere, even in crowded towns. Can't comment about public transport as we didn't use it. I would take Lutz's word for it.
