Technical question - handbrake problem

Hi

Can someone help please? I can put the handbrake on ok but can't get it off at any price which is obviously a problem. (It's a question of strength or lack of it on my part). Any suggestions?

Lisa.

This is not something that a layydeee would usually do .........

Stand astride the A-frame when you try to release the lever. It will be easier, and better for your back as well.

Otherwise, you might need the services of a chap.

Oh dear, I'll have to try that when there is no one around tomorrow - got to take the van back into storage.

Thanks.

I'm getting visuals there ;O)

Is it to do with the button that you press?

If so spray a litter WD 40 round it and get a cup of coffee.

The thing with you get a cup of coffee is to give the WD 40 time to work.

Then go back and see if it has dunned the job.

Thanks Mark yes the button is a problem but so is physically releasing the handbrake. I'll try your advice too.

Just hope that sort of thing is not illegal.

Hi Roy

Tried that, still doesn't work - have resorted to using a screwdriver to push the button in but that doesn't always work.

lisa you may find your problem is with the trigger which locks in the ratchet mechanism.try some penetrating oil in that rather than the button itself.if the handbrake ratchet is releasing but youre having trouble lowering the lever it may be that the operating rod under the van is slightly bent.

Lisa,

You will have great difficulty trying to get the handbrake button in with your thumb (no matter how strong you may be),unless you first release the tension by pulling up the handbrake, and then pressing the button in with the thumb.

Hope this helps,

Pop

hi,if you find a metal tube to go over the hand brake, about 2 foot long.fit a bike rubber hand grip over the top of it.at three inches from the bottom, drill one small hole and fit a nut and bolt through the hole.when placed over the hand brake the extra leverage will be applied from the bar making it easy to lift and the bolt will push in the button when you push from the handle.if can not do it yourself get one made.a bike shop may do it,at a cost.
