I have Milenco Towing mirrors and can I fit them correctly to the car at the start of my journey ----------- No Chance.

I have to go through the same rigmoroll of adjusting the mirrors when i fit them.

What techniques do you use to ensure your mirrors are almost correct when you fit them???

Now I'm no spring chicken when it comes to Caravanning, But fitting mirrors AAAAAAGH

I have never achieved his 100%. The setting you get varies if you do not get the mirrors clamped in exactly the same spot, and care is needed when you take them off and put them back not to disturb the setting. I tend to try and fix my mirrors as far out on the cars mirror as possible to get the best view and have them in the same place, but it is often just a bit out but then needs only minor adjustment if any. Just something you have to live with unless someone knows better.

I have a small white mark on the Car mirror surround and I line up the clamps with this mark, and when I tighten the Clamps I can move the mirror up or down quite nicely. I also have the shaped foot clamps.

I agree-they are tricky to adjust but mine seem to alter v little between use-I think the position on the mirror itself is the biggest factor as long as you don't knock them when off and bagging them. Often wished they were electric!!!!

I have/had white marks, on the mirror and as soon as I remove the mirror the weight turns them down,

Your clamps are different to mine. I have just one thumb screw, that clamps both arm and mirror fittings together, at once. Yours look as though they are clamped separately, that would help. Off to Fleebay now to see if I can bye some of them

Well, from experience I can honestly say you will never get them perfect, unless you want to spend megabucks buying the motorized ones. Not only would you need to get them in the exact same spot but as you clamp down on the mirror housing, it will flex and never flex identically. As a tip for general use, the further out on the mirror housing you put them, the less stable they will be as you are adding to the fulcrum effect of the arms themselves. Add that to British roads, tyre vibration and wind speed and it all makes for an unstable mirror. Another tip, from an ex-trucker and Im sure Parksy will agree, is in very wet or misty weather, tie a strip of rag about 2 inch wide and ten inch long next to the mirror on the mirror arm, and it will flap around and continually wipe your mirrors.

Finally, for those stuggling with a copilot that finds the mirrors resist any attempt to adjust them, and then all of a sudden jump a couple of inches, there is an answer. The mirrors are usually on a ball socket, and they get dry and tight inside. I have also found that Milenco in particular very often have a tiny nub on the ball from the moulding process. This nub can easily be removed by a stanley knife or some fine emery cloth. Its easy to flick the ball out of the socket and you can then apply a thin smear of grease to the ball. Handy hint, either copper grease or as I use, powdered graphite. To flick them out just push the arm as far as it will go back on itself, than add a tad more pressure. They will pop out without damage, just needs a stong thumb or hide mallet to persuade it back in afterwards.

The horizontal screw clamps everything together and nothing moves , the vertical ones just do the feet, and you don't need to screw them down to tight.

That was fast---------- Ordered them Sunday, Arrived today Tuesday. Off to fit them, Clamping the mirror bar separately from the car mirror clamps is a the better Idea.
My mirrors are trade marked FALCON although they are made by Milenco with, they claim, easier fitting, that's one thing there not.

Can you put a photo of the before and after, if possible. My mirrors are the Grqnd Aero, and have the angle down, so the mirror is lower and more in my line of sight.

Yes, the old waggon drivers self cleaning mirror kit before modern fol de rols like electric mirrors made the rag strips unnecessary.
Modern day lorry drivers are cossetted, they'll be giving them power steering next 😜

Yes, I can see, the new ones will make a big differerance. You only have to loosen the vertical screw, to remove the mirrors. 👍

Yes. As soon as I undid the old vertical screw, the mirror sung down loosing any vertical adjustment.

Thanks Hutch they are 100 times better. Set mirror then removed, then put them on again and each time the view was acceptable.
I'm toying with the idea of marking up the front of my garage so I can check the setting solo. An X about the central position of the mirrors should do. If it dose anything it'll mightily confuse anybody walking by, wondering what the X,s are marking.

Now off I go again, dose anyone know if there is a limit to how far a mirror can stick out beyond the vehicle width???

Hi Parksy, I’ve worked on various HGV tractor units and the mirrors are no longer mirrors but what looks like a mirror in size and shape, it’s mounted inside the cab on the A post on both near side and offside and it’s actually a screen that shows what cameras mounted on the outside can see, the picture is perfect, I’m told by drivers the view is perfect and the camera doesn’t need wiping for ages, like lots of things there’s changes happening all the time, I bet we’ll be getting driverless cars next!!!

I wonder if we’ll be able to fit a camera on the side of the caravan that sends a picture to internal mirrors, nothing would surprise.

You can get cameras that fit ontot he rear of the caravan to give you a view to the rear. Great for France and Spain where small cars like to ride in the slipstream of the caravan and you cannot see them in your mirrors.

I have had my camera on the back on the van for about 8 years now, really good, a great help when reversing onto a pitch.

And look at the shine on that caravan

I seem to remember a land rover sport had so many cameras when set up for towing, that all you would see when you looked into the rear view mirror, was a ghost of the van, just the outline, So you are able to see everything behind the van.

Afraid not an option on my motor.
