Good evening - Would like to know if there is anyone who has had any trouble with their television in their caravan. We have a Conqueror which came with a television which is on a bracket permanently fitted to the van. We have had several problems with the tv including it turning itself off at regular intervals we wondered if it was anything to do with travelling with the tv on its bracket - the makers said they had'nt had any other complaints - we felt that maybe it was due to this. This is a new caravan so the television has only been used on a few occasions, but because it is over 1 year old it is out of warranty. caravan dealer and the supplier of the tv not interested. Any help on this much appreciated.

Hi Janice,

This is the first time I have also heard of this issue. Rather than the TV being at fault, has your dealer checked the power connection (I'm assuming it is the Autosound model, with 12V)?

The TV is suitable for (and designed for) use in mobile vehicles, and we fit the bracket to all other models we produce, so I would be surprised if this was at fault.

Hi Janice and Ash, doe's the tele run solely on 12V? if so then the battery voltage may be the cause of it swithing off. Bazz

Hi Bazz,

A very good point. If it is the TV I mentioned, then it can also run from 230V (there are two different models we fitted), but perhaps Janice can advise when the problem arises?

Thanks very much for your input the only thing I would say is that friends of ours had the same set up as us and the same problems occurred - they have since replaced their television although it is early days no problems as yet. Our television is autosound but we have'nt had the dealer check the power supply because they told us they couldnt get a good signal so could only check the television had power to it, and not the quality of picture. Also we have noticed that when setting up the tv when we touch the pole of the aeriel it improves the picture but when you let go it deteriates should this be earthed?

have a look at the sale of goods act. goods are supposed to last a reasonable amount of time and usually that is longer than the 12 months or so that is quoted. try citizens advice for more info

The TV is still under warranty according to EU law and Britain is part of the EU the last time I checked.

Do not let the dealer fob you off. See http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/may/23/tesco-consumer-guarantee and http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/consumers/protection_of_consumers/l32022_en.htm

In addition, you have our own SOGA law which covers the article fro up to 6 years although after the two years you will need to prove the defect existed on purchase.

Simple Question - you say the TV turns off at regular intervals...............RU sure that the snooze functionis not set to say 30 /45 minutes ?
