Temporary car insurance

Last night at 1945 my granddaughter rang to ask if her brother could borrow his Nans car for today. We said “ no” as didn’t want the hassle of ringing our insurer at that time to arrange additional cover plus the ubiquitous admin charge. Anyway his sister donated her car for the day and I agreed to give her a lift into work.

On the way to her work she told me that her brother had taken out fully comprehensive cover from a provider of temporary insurance. So it has no effect on her policy. The temporary cover can be for an hour through to 30 days as required

New one on me but his Nan has now offered her car for a couple of weeks until he finally decides what to do wrt new company car, or car allowance.

I have used temp insurance in the past for getting a car to an mot when it's not been worth swaping insurance over, or when borrowing my old mums car when ours is off the road.
it's a bit pricey but can get you out of a hole

It does exist but you might find he wording of your renewal requires you to report any accident with it, so cannot guarantee it will not affect the next years premium.
