Tesco clubcard vouchers

Just to let everyone know who shops at tescos that you can redeem your vouchers against the eurotunnel, the vouchers are worth 4x their value, the prices for 2009 are already out, all you have to do is redeem your vouchers before you book and the tesco clubcard website tells you how to do it. The cost of a car and van (our size van is 7.9mts) for next July school holidays is £98 each way, if you go out of school holidays then you wont need as many vouchers. Thought I would share this info with you all.

Came back on the tunnel Thursday, and only had a delay of one hour fifteen minutes, so I think by next July 2009 things will be back to normal. best way to France I say, but everyone is different

A lot of companies have taken their vehicles off of Eurotunnel due to the fire, so current delays are not an accurate picture.

The truth about damage and repair completion differs to what is made public we've been told.

Their was always doubts re the Tunnels fire precautions as they tried to save money on the build!

Not true Euro

The Tunnel was a brilliant piece of construction with many built in safety measures and no skimping took place.

Ther damage to the tunnel will be substantial and will take time to repair .

However the design means this damaged section can be isolated, so that repairs can take place with no trains running in this stretch.

Some delays will occur.

The problem is the open design of the lorry traffic rail wagons.

These have alowed a fire, which has started in an individual truck to spread to others the length of the train.

This has happened twice now.

Kent Fire Brigade has condemed this design calling for closed rail wagons for trucks, with fitted sprinkler systems, to stop any fire at its inception.

Sorry Cheryl for going off topic.

Sorry Gafferbill on this one I wear my professional hat, Channel Tunnel was a great build for engineers such as myself.

Fire safety equipment and technology another story, believe what you want the fire safety and detection systems put in was compromised by the budget.

The open design of truck carriages was a concern from the start, they alone compromise the safety apart from anything else!

I was only trying to save you guys some money if you were thinking of using the tunnel, i wasnt expecting a big debate on the safety of it, however, its not put me off going on the tunnel and if i can save a few bob i will.

Hi

Yours was a good origional post Cheryl.

I did say sorry for going of topic.

My wife has used the tunnel through her work but I never have. We always go for lowest price when we are paying.

Maybe with your Tesco voucher info, I can get to go down the tunnel.

Anyone seen how to get extra Tesco points? Apparently some stores have 'recycling machines' where for every four items you recycle you get a Tesco point. There's a story in today's Telegraph about a couple who spent many weeks 'foraging' and recycling via this machine, and got enough Tesco points to pay for their honeymoon, once they were turned into airmiles! Perhaps something for us less well-off caravanners to think about if we have a similar 'machine' at the Tesco store in our neighbourhood.

Thanks for that info, our local tescos has a large recycling area so I will make enquiries when I go. I know you get one extra point for each bag of your own you use when shopping but you know what they say "every little helps"- sorry couldnt resist that! A friend of mine is going to Rhodes in Oct halfterm using her clubcard vouchers and shes paid

Cheryl,

We too are using our clubcard vouchers to go to Centerparcs in France for new year, using our clubcard vouchers, and have paid for the shuttle using them too and it hasn't cost us any cash.

I think it is a good form of saving

We use our Tesco Credit Card for everything, including buying a car once,we pay all our bills with it too and as were are on a pension we settle in full each month to avoid charges. This has meant we could book the tunnel for next year with our vouchers otherwisw we would find it a bit of a struggle.I was a bit nervous when the fire occurred as I have a phobia about fires. We went earlier this year via thw tunnel and it was very relaxed travel.

Excuse me if I side track a little.

Using my Tesco credit card to pay for stuff like shopping and family meals abroad gave me a better exchange rate than I could get at home or whilst away. They tell me I got the commercial exchange rate and not the tourist rate.

Maybe it's the same with all cards but it's worth investigating.

Don't Tesco make a charge though when you use it!

We've just come back from Tenerife and were getting on avrage 1.26euros when using our credit card or debit card (Nationwide cards-no charges)

I don't beleive they make a transaction charge unless it's burried in the transaction it'self and I can't see it.

I've just checked my statement from early Aug and I was getting 1.22 - 1.23 which was better than the tourist rate at the time.

I don't know whether I received Club card points for foreign tranactions.

The Teso card Customer service are very good once you've battled your way through the automated number pressing so they would be sure to explain.
