Hi Guys

Has anyone stayed here? We're booked in for New Year and the week after and I wanted to know a bit about the site.I'm aware of the A93 road and the possible conditions if it snows, hopefully we'll get there before that.

Thanks for any replies.

We have stayed there a couple of times. It is a nice site with one main area and two smaller areas plus an area for tents. There are also 2 utillity blocks which close for cleaning at different times. It is a 5 minute walk into the village where I would reccomend the Gathering Place for eating. You'll be lucky to get there before the snow though and the road up from blairgowrie is a shocker.

Hi Nick

We love this site. We've had a winter seasonal pitch for a few years now in the hope of skiing!

Colin is right in a way about the toilet blocks but over the winter season there is only one open. It has an excellent drying room and a boot room or drying off wet outdoor clothes and walking boots.

We've not eaten at the Gathering Place but prefer the short drive to the Inver Hotel (about 7 miles down the road to Ballater).

The wardens, George and Norma, are really pleasant and helpful.

Hope you have a great time and we may see you there.

Good site. Pretty much our local site so we are out frequently. Gathering Palce is excellent, the Inver is more variable. You won't need snow chains. If it snows, the snow gates are closed pretty quickly so you wouldn't really get a chance to use them.

Have to endorse what has already been said about Invercauld it is a good site. The wardens are very good to.

When it's dry the road up from the Perthshire side is not to bad. I met a guy on site who drove up from Perth towing a Super Storm and he said it was no bother even with some snow on the ground.

Last year a lot of the Vans on site had Christmas Trees etc illuminated, and one van had flahing lights all round the front of the van, it all looked very festive.

I do'nt know where you are driving from but it has been suggested to me by people who go to braemar frequently that it is better to go via Banchory and Ballater when the weather is bad

Hi Nick,

You do need to keep an eye on the weather, but the roads are kept clear during the daytime, overnight can sometimes be a problem. If you are coming from the south just use viamichelin to see the difference over the Aberdeen/Banchory/Ballater routes.

By the way both routes are relatively free of traffic in comparison to the south.

Look forward to seeing you over Hogmanay

Frank and Colin, good to know there's an alternative.I'll be picking the caravan up at the storage near Errol (Perth) so both routes are accessible and I'll decide on the day.I'll be sure to look out for you Frank, and thanks everyone for your help.

Cheers

Nick
