I really don't know what all the hype is about as its on reworked freelander under pinnings still and all they have done is made it longer to accommodate the extra seats which are only good for children.
Having attended a car forum 6 months ago they had one of these and it did look like a freelander with an extra section attached?
The cost of them has shot up a top HSE model £40k?

Reworked Freelander, with a heavily modified chassis, new suspension, completely new body shell, the option of a nine speed gearbox and a new engine by this time next year, :S

This what has been written about it?
" What is a surprise is that despite the all new look and name, this is essentially still the old Freelander (or Evoque, if you prefer) underneath. Yes, the platform is heavily modified, but it's not an advanced, lightweight aluminium effort like the new Range Rovers, or the Jag XE. "
The suspension is not all new again just modified and revised?
With new panels i suppose you could say its a facelifted Freelander? :)
They are not impressed with the technology either?
"While we're on the subject of disappointments, jumping into the new Discovery Sport left us underwhelmed. The most notable let-down is the infotainment system which appears to be the same one JLR's been using, well, forever. Sure, there's a new tiled menu home screen, but underneath it's the same clunky old tech
Whats the point of hyping up a car on release but wait a year as we have a better engine and gearbox coming out

Also added 7 seats, something they couldn't do with the Freelander 2.
Like the Evoque, the Discovery Sport has a steel monocoque basic structure, but the engineers have done their best to improve rigidity and contain weight by increasing the use of high-strength steel. They’ve also followed a general Jaguar Land Rover trend by using aluminium for the Sport’s roof, wings, bonnet and tailgate.

So much for same Panels and Chassis, if it was like the Range Rover it would be a Range Rover.

Old Suspension.
Land Rover’s director of programmes, Murray Dietsch, says engineers heeded calls from Freelander owners to provide more space in both areas. This required them to design both a new chassis/body structure from the centre pillars back, and the new multi-link suspension that eliminates the space-sapping suspension towers of the previous system.
Like the existing strut front suspension, the new coil-sprung multi-link rear layout uses forged aluminium knuckles and links to save weight.

Oh yes the Home Screen.
In the centre of the dashboard, a new eight-inch screen governs an all-new infotainment system that is expected gradually to flow through the whole range.

As well as handling the usual audio and navigation functions, it provides a hub for a new set of InControl apps that, for now, can provide vehicle tracking, access to emergency services and an in-car 3G hotspot.

Perhaps if you bothered to research more, instead of trashing Land Rover, your comments would not seem so silly.

From my guess you are a LR owner?
I didnt trash it at all i simply said what is all the hype about?
A simple "google search" gave me the information i quoted? Not written by me but by car journalists who have seen the car and not reported the information from a LR handout?
When introduced to this car 6 months ago it was badged a Freelander Sport?
Again PC have highlighted LR with no mention of the all new XC90 ( which is getting rave reviews) and the new Sorrento?

Please see David Motton's blog from 3rd September 2014 which mentions both the XC90 and Sorrento!!

See there you go, reading what journalist say, those in the know knew 18 months ago that there would be no Freelander 3 or Freelander Sport, those were guesses by bored journalist on a no news day.

Instead of reading what paid journalist write, do your own research, see the vehicle try it out then comment on hard facts.

Can't leave anything good alone can they ?

The current Freelander (as I have) with the uprated SD4 and automatic makes an excellent towcar and one small enough to go into many garages, has excellent visibility for town use and in the basic GS form is very reasonably priced if you don't (like many) want to pay for all the bells and whistles.

Although accepting that this is a matter of personal taste, the squarer lines suit the vehicle well and the visibility is certainly way ahead of Evoque.

It's all been downhill for the lower priced LR products since the original Disco, particularly in appearance.

As far Freelander goes, the only lower-priced LR - the FL2 was a huge improvement on the original, in all respects, so hardly downhill.
