Theft while away on holiday

Hi

just come back from a lovely 2 week break to a CC & C site. We have a caravan but went with my sister who has a tent. On packing up on the last day we discovered that she had had some things stolen from her tent while we were there, DVD player for car and a Nintendo DS. We both could not believe it especially on a club site. Has anyone every experience anything similar. Are we just naive in thinking that people are trustworthy when camping and caravanning as we are all in the same boat.

Hi Jane,

I think you have been unlucky especially on a club site, one of the attractions when we first started caravanning was the fact that you could rely on other people. In 16 years we have only had our jockey wheel stolen,on a commercial site, while we were asleep in the van, have heard of aquarolls and water pumps being stolen, but just reflects the state of current society, that some people are prepared to steal rather than pay for something they decide they must have.By the nature of camping and caravanning it is impossible to secure every bit of equipment, hope it hasn't put you and your sister off caravanning and camping, most of the time it is really enjoyable.

When we were in France 4 years ago we had some money stolen from inside our caravan. We were sitting outside my sisters van at the time, which was next to our van, eating dinner. We had shut the door but not locked it. Now always lock our van if we're not in it. Sadly you will get theives everywhere.

Hi

Seems to be a growing problem.

My parents are at their van on a seasonal pitch in cumbria and had the awning broken into while they were in bed. They reported it to the warden who said a few had been broken into the night before but the thieves had been caught and arrested.Although we dont know the outcome i fear a slap on the wrists will be all they get.

blu, I know the "slap on thie wrists" was a tongue in the cheek remark but that would be preferable to what they will actually get. Imagine if someone did slap their wrists, they would sue for assualt and get awarded thousands :O(

I think that this government will go down in history as the government of lawlessness.

quote: I think that this government will go down in history as the government of lawlessness.

Never a truer word spoken!

Can you remember who said - "Tough on crime - tough on the causes of crime" ? The biggest liar in British politics!

It would be the same no matter what Government was in authority.

Crime is on the increase - let's face facts. We're becoming more like America everyday. We just find it difficult to get our heads round.

Sad.

A couple of years ago we were staying on a C&CC site where all the 'untethered' push bikes were stolen overnight. A total of 5 from one unit alone, along with several others!!! It wasn't down to the people on site, but the local 'travellers'.

Following this incident the Warden insisted that the gate be shut at all times and locked at 11pm. One visitor on arrival at the site took exception at this and insisted that the gate(s) be left open and unlocked at all times. Naturally, this request was ignored for the benefit of all.

Mark Mac, for your info we have overtaken America.

The U.N. figures for the most dangerous places to live in the developed world show that Scotland is the top of the league with England/Wales in second place.

LB,

Stats to support this ??

"Mark Mac, for your info we have overtaken America".

looks like a Daily Mail type of quote.

Looking to see what solutions people have for these louts ??.

Don't think our Home Secretary, Jaqui Smith is going to sort it.

please don't forget our Ministers and MPs are no brighter than anyone else, why we think they can sort it god only knows.

I've just spent 30 minutes looking for this article but cannot find it. You were close regarding the paper Frank, it was the Scotsman site :O)

To save you replying I will reply for you - I was imagining it or I was lying, it was all in my head and I made it up ;O)

There was a forum after the article and I doubted the facts so I told them to ask the Oracle. They agreed to do that but unfortunately I didn't have your email addy or phone # to pass on to them ;O)

Still touchy, touchy,

That's what you get for intimating I was drunk over the weekend, when I questioned your post. re the duck, the shorts, and wellies + the arm in arm !!!!! Billy and Bessie Bessacarr send their love.

Frank

Hi Ann,

I am not really upset, but when people start putting incorrect posts then I feel it has to be challenged. You just can't put a wide sweeping statement like " we have overtaken the USA on crime " without supporting it with a link.

And as for the Billy & Bessie Bessacarr from last weekend, well words fail me.

In No way would I get upset, but if he's gpoing to post please post fact, and not fiction.

We stayed at a site in North Wales a few months ago and I woke around 7am to hear a crash in the awning. I found both the kids skateboards had falled and someone had tried to reach under the awning to take them. At
