Thetford Cassette Leaking?

Hi,

New member and new caravan owner here from North Wales.

We have just returned from our first weekend away in our new to us 2004 Lunar Quasar 525 and have had a couple of issues.

The first is that when you remove the cassette/holding tank from the Thetford C402C toilet and stand it up ready to wheel away, some of the contents dribbles out from around the rotary blade accusatory mechanism "switch"...I've looked on line and I can see various seals for other parts of the cassette, but can't see anything for this bit?

When I bought the van, the mechanism internal parts were dethatched and loose inside the holding tank..I've clipped the bits back together and everything seems to work ok, except it leaks a little..

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Maybe the seal has got a little deformed by being detached. Try opening and closing more times and lubricate the main tank seal face with silicon spray vegetable oil or Thetford proprietary lub. Top up the tank with fresh water and place vertically and see if it still leaks, if it does then replacement seal is probably required. Thetford website has a good set of illustrations, part numbers and guide on how to do the job, as does Youtube.

Additionally change the blade mechanism. When the rotating gear wheel wears you get the problem described just before final failure occurs. See Thetford site for details.
