Thetford Refrigerator N80

Hello All

I've had this fridge on 2003 van from new. On the gas side it has been a constant scouce of trouble and, while it was in warranty Thetford honoured their commitment and made several visits to put it right. However this year I have had to have a new jet (burner?) fitted at over £100 and now, the auto ignitor comes on at odd times during the day and night. Not so bad in the day, but at night I can clearly hear the thing ticking/clicking. It is not that the gas has gone out, or the thermo has cut in..... it just does it for no reason. Anyone got any ideas, or is it anothwer expensive trip to the dealer for a new control unit?

our n80e has been a constant pain in the arse too, the gas has only ever worked once, i just run it on electric all the time.

I am waiting for a thermocouple to arrive to see if that helps it, i have only ever got it lit once.

Hello Mike,

I emailed Thetford (and copied Swift) twice telling them about my problem, and asking if they had any ideas. Nil reply from Thetford - total disinterest, and a note from Swift suggesting that I contact one of their Dealers! Really useful advice that I would never have thought of in a million years!! I despair of both of them, and shall make sure I avoid both products in the future!!

I sympathise with the problems encountered. I also have aN80 fridge in my van but it is the manual version and to date, crossed fingers, it has been fine.

I do find it a better unit than Dometics for the hot sun of the Med, but I suppose at the end of the day you have to accept what the mnaufacturer has fitted.
