Things Salesmen Say

Overheard on the Carlight stand at the NEC yesterday whilst in a new Carlight, MTPLM 2600kg!!!

Punter. "I suppose I would need quite a towcar to pull this, Range Rover perhaps?"
Saleman. "Not necessarily, I've pulled this with a Passat"

Has the time come for some sort of regulation and compulsory training before they are allowed to sell caravans?

You carry the gold toilet in the car to get the caravan weight down

Seriously the VW 4motion model seems to have a max towedwe weight of 2200,Kg, so the caravan unloaded may be within the cars limit! but you also need a pantecnican for all the pay load.

What surprises me even more is that Carlight recommend a noseweight of only 54kg for a caravan with a 2600kg MTPLM. I wonder how they determined this somewhat odd figure. Why 54kg??

One of our mystery shoppers for the Dealer of the Year awards was told that his son could be considered experienced enough to tow over 85% because he had been holidaying with his mum and dad for 20 years. Not sure how that qualifies you for towing...

My personal favourite was that the shower in an eight-year old caravan was 'as good as a domestic power shower'. Either his domestic power shower is rubbish or he's never been in a caravan. Latter seems more likely...

It seems it is a special order we were told for a "well known actress" she did not want a toilet!

Margaret Beckett's Bailey had an office in place of the rear washroom so she could carry on being home secretary while she toured FACT!

Last month we were told by a salesman in Cheshire at a recently closed dealership that our 1600ish kg car and 1600 kg max mass caravan were on their Towmatching Computer program an 80% match
How can that be ??
Well you take no notice of that 101% figure on the left and you compare the van max weight with the car manufacturers stated max tow allowance!!

I can remember selling on the Bailey Stand at the last Earls Court show, at about 2pm in the afternoon a customer approached me and asked where the Monarch was, I replied "At this time of day on a Friday afternoon, Windsor". Funny enough it went straight over his head.
