I see the new swift conqueror have a built in wind deflector :silly: I always thought that they worked better when fitted to the roof of the car :dry:

No sorry that's dirt on the windscreen :lol: .... You can't see it but the heki rooflight was bouncing up and down due to the wind pressure at more than 60mph, I was more bothered if the battery decided to come out as i passed him ... 20kg of battery would have put an awful dint in my bumper never mind what damage the acid could / would cause to mine and other vehicles ...

On the way up to Pickering on the M5 a van in front of us had the bouncing roof light, so pulled up beside him and the other half let him know, (she can be loud at times :lol: )

Now what did he do?
stop right away on the hard shoulder?
Or pull off at next services?

What would you have done?

When it happend to me, a couple of years ago, I pulled over on the M40, in torrentiol rain and put the air brake down. Maybe not the safest thing to do, BUT.
Batttery should be strapped in anyway. Just in case door came off.
He could join the Woosies.

Sorry Mel, no he stopped there and then on the hard shoulder, couldn't believe it.

But i would have done what you suggested.
Life's more precious than a roof light.

Saftey, it could come away and hit someone, which i worse, 10 minutes hard shoulder with flashers on, or another 10 miles of violent vibrations. , I think I am correct.

Anything coming loose on a car , caravan or trailer is bad, what seems to be ok one moment can suddenly become a a motorway crash and serious accident. Best stop alert the motor way patrols and correct the situation, ,maybe if you are a mile or two from services thats differnent. But in my situation, that was different. .

I have driven something like 50 miles with the roof hatch up. Had this sudden feeling all was not well and stopped and luckily the hatch was still there. Twice we have driven off with the aerial up, the last time out I left the battery box open but saw this in the mirror, I have also lost the cover off the water inlet by not shutting it, seen a window open and flapping in the mirror and driven off with the jockey wheel down.
No one is perfect and I suppose most have done similar but it has taken me 33 years so probably not that bad.

Driving home from site this morning, about 8 or 9 miles up the the road Wife screams stop you have left the wet locker open. In my defence i did shut it must have forgotten to lock it. Anyway superb about turn and drive back we actually found our Cadac hose and Water pump on the side of the road. Mind you they were a long way apart must have been a good mile which i thought was strange. It must be an age thing the time before last i took the motormover remote for a nice drive round on the windscreen valance. Took us ages to find it!!

I forgot to lock the gas locker, which is situated on the A frame and has quite a large lid, made of grp. I saw it lift and pulled onto the shoulder, but too late, it took off and landed in lane 1 of an absolutely empty dual carriageway. As I ran back to retrieve an apparently undamaged lid a van appeared in lane 2, saw the lid and swerved into lane 1 to run over it, laughing like a drain! What sort of evil b*st*rd would do that?
It cost me £80 for a new custom made lid.

Some years ago in France left the big heki in my Burstner open and towed about 80 miles quite steadily on the motorway. Looking at the car computer noticed it indicated about 7 mpg less that I normally got. Drag is proportional to the square of the speed !
