As I am on the 3rd XT 2.2 diesel in 7 years I would say that it is a good buy

It will pull a twin axle caravan but you need to check the weight of the specific one

Hi Maryn,

The X trail as with most Japanese vehicles will be very reliable and well built, the diesel engine will be a modern and be pretty good on fuel. As a towcar I think the max tow weight is about 2000kgs but the kerbweight is only around 1650kgs so most newish twin axles will be over 100% match and to get an 85% match you will need a caravan of about 1400kgs. Similar money will buy you a Kia Sorento which is a pretty good budget 4X4 and will pull all twin axles without any problems.

Hi,

the X trail is a brilliant towcar - but not for a twin axle caravan.

The diesel consumption is briliant solo - about 38mpg - but we tow an Award Brightstar - well under 85per cent and the consumption drops to 24mpg.

We had a Terrano and a heavier van and downsized because of the fuel consumption.
