Apologies for hijacking this thread slightly, but I'm thinking of getting a Cadac Safari Chef.
We don't do much barbecuing, as often as not we eat out when we're away with the caravan.
All that I want is something small, portable, lightweight, easy to clean which I can connect to the caravan gas BBQ point.
Any good?

They are a very good BBQ, you can use also the lid for a stir fry, curry or paella, then you have a flat griddle for fried eggs etc. easy to clean and store.

Thanks Tukums, that's what I was hoping to hear.
The model that I'm thinking of buying is a low pressure model.
Are these ok to connect to the caravan system via the barbecue point?

:cheer: Lean meat is protein, and eaten sensibly won't put weight on Craig.
I have gained a bit of weight since last Christmas, but after having the summer away from healthy eating I'm back to it with a venegance.
There's a pork escalope with my name on it when I get my Cadac. :p

Your right , it is healthy , but its the alcohol consumed whilst cooking that isn't !! :p

Beef marinated and cooked in red wine is a favourite of mine.
You have to find out what you're cooking with though..... :cheer:

Lean meat = healthy protein + salad = healthy green stuff cooked on the cadac means I'm a convert and have started looking. I did notice the obligatory glass of something nice next to the bbq in most pictures. I understand this is essential and so am even more converted......Is the safari chef essentially the smaller version?

We also have the Safari Chef and mostly use the flat hotplate griddle, the pan serving as a lid. WE carry an extra 'dumpy' cylinder as no external BBQ point and leave the regulator attached to the Cadac hose. The only criticism that I have is there is no détente on the gas control, so it is difficult to turn to low without turning off. Maybe later versions have corrected this - I would prefer a push and turn so it could be reduced unless deliberately turned to off. It comes with an overall zip bag as well as individual circular zipped pouches for the hotplates. I would invest in some silicone tongs as the non-stick surface otherwise seems quite easy to scratch, so it's a great package for the cash and spares are readily available. Also I don't have one, but I hear the pizza stones cook an authentic pizza!

Hutch, if you're making a box of red last a whole weekend you must be walking the dogs to the pub an awful lot :p

As far as the cadac goes we use it nearly every day when away and it varies as to which bits we use depending on what's on the menu. The skottle always seems to quite a bit of use. It must be at least ten years old now so certainly had our monies worth out of it.

Because of how good the cadac performs and has lasted, this year when we needed to buy a gas bbq for home because of a party, we turned to cadac again for the bbq. We've only just popped it away for the winter having used it about three times a week since June. Very efficient as used less than two bottles of gas.

I’m very pleased with the Cadac Grillogaz but can’t understand why it doesn’t have a piezo ingniter as using matches or gas lighters is okay on first start but it’s not so easy if you need to relight whilst hot.

Like Martin says it is very efficient we use it everytime we are away and sometimes at home and I've had it for 5 years now and I've only gone through two bottles of gas , someone mentioned a bit about the stone pizza plate , we've tried that but pizzas stuck to it , wasnt impressed . And i dont like wasting food !! ;)

Haven't got a pizza stone for the cadac in the van and yet to try the one that came with the home one. Will try and get round to it next year and see how we get on. That under 2 bottles is a three burner plus side burner. In the van less gas used by the cadac than the oven.

Craig,we did the same regarding pizza stone, made a right bloody mess. but since, we make the ones using pitta bread(I think like the ones from getoutwithkids).miles easier and kids can make their own and no mess.

Mmm . That's a hard one :p excellent !
All you need now is a little table that goes beside it where you can fit a few beers on it or a bottle of wine and thats you's sorted  ! When we were in France it was BBQ breakfast , a light lunch :p and a BBQ meal on the nightime enjoyed by all ! Class , we can't wait to get back !
Enjoy
Craig .

Like I said in an earlier post also have a look at B & M's for an elactric hot plate £25 , but it's good if you run out off room on the barbecue, you can plug it in off the mains and have two going at same time. Off course it depends on the size of the barbecue you have bought , ours is just the small one but happy with it .

Jaillin , little tip as we found, when you start cooking put your flat hot plate on first , then put the bit with the bars/rack on top of that and it saves stuff getting stuck to the hot plate . Good luck :)
