We fly St Georges Cross and Stars and Strips when on European sites and many others fly their national flags too. It helps break the ice a bit (before you put it in the G&T). Never had any complaints ( but they are small 'car' flags attached to the windbreak poles). Rather like the new 'official' Somerset flag so may get a proper pole this year and give it a go. You can find poles, flags, streamers on quite a number of sites e.g. www.lifebreeze.co.uk

I believe to be perfectly formal and correct you should also fly the national flag of you host country - perhaps some former military person well versed in such matters will comment ?

I wouldn't mind betting the flag of St. George sightings will increase during the world cup! I'd fly one myself if I knew where to get hold of a flagpole!

I use one of my sons cast off fishing poles B)

I would like to fly a flag whilst on sites, but have a couple of questions, I have seen the thread and i would need a spike to put into the ground then fasten to the jockey wheel using a bungee cord, how then as in the first picture do you secure it when on a hard standing site?

You don't need a spike, you can use a rock peg in both cases by the side at the bottom of the pole and then use a ty-rap to join the two together. Buy the ty-raps from a pound shop or DIY shop.

I just bought some beautiful handmade pirate bunting to hang on the awning next week. Sir F knows nothing about it so it'll be a surprise and match the pirate flag we'll be flying; might see if I can find a pink pig.... :woohoo:

Hi Gafferbill. I was flying the flag on the very same forum but not as most would "know it" or refer to it as.
Mine was not made of fabric, plastic or any other material that is traditionally used in flag making.
I was seriously curtailed for my efforts and even accused of being an E***** Basher. I most certainly was not and still am not. I still believe that they make some of the best layouts in the industry but I am afraid that other aspects of their overall 'game plan' need some really really serious looking at.
I still have my rather expensively repair example of one of their more commonly talked about failures that was/is/has been always blamed on something else or somebody else.

HI TR

I am keeping my 1995 Swift and enjoying it :) ........the only problems with it are age related.
I read your tales of woe on that other forum!
I cannot be confident that £20K spent on a new caravan would not be too much hassle.
For me the priority is enjoyment......don't want hassle

Hi again Gafferbill. I will concur with Parksy on the subject of your Union Flag. I could never figure out why there was such a silly ruling taken about your rather delightful and totally British symbol.
Is it a ready available item and have you had any other objections to it being displayed and unfurled in the wind?
On the subject of older caravans :- In 2006 I bought a two previous owner 1992 Fleetwood Colchester 1850 prior to the Elddis Crusader SuperSirocco. It was a truly fabulous example of a double dinette variant and with a three quarter orthopaedic mattress in the rear dinette it was a fabulous van to tow aided by the longer 'A' frame that Fleetwood were known for. The van had been repaired at the rear cap/roof-line position after a period of water ingress began to show just before I bought it as a pre-owned caravan. The floor was sound and despite the bashing the Fleetwood often endured - I could only fault them for their rather inaccurate 'Ex works' claimed weights.
I would doubtless still have it but for a rather freaky accident at the storage site. I had only just totally stripped and re-trimmed the interior - including new carpet throughout with curtain & pelmet work to finish it off.
It was all part and parcel of my trade.
