to sell or not to sell

We bought A 1996 elddis vogue 415 caravan aug 2005, we have just found its riddled with damp and will cost best part of £1000 to repair, we are going to get it fixed but have been advised to cut our losses and sell it when its fixed. My question is has any one else been in same position and wot did you do?
