Toilet 'blue'

I got thinking (dangerous, I know....), toilet 'blue' is generally considered to be made up of formaldehyde, and used to break down the 'number two' deposits, but is it not a 'preservative', generally used to 'keep things as they were'......potential for 'stool' perfection
