Toilet flush tank

Hi. Just back from 1st trip of season and everything seemed ok on set up. Went into bathroom after a couple of hours to find entire contents of flush tank on the floor. Cleaned up , put a basin in toilet tank recess and poured some water into flush tank. Observed a trickle from flush tank but all connections and hoses seemed ok. Only thing I can think of is a split tank. Seems a bit strange though as tank was drained for winter and problem appears top be right at bottom as tank fully drained itself. Probably just get by with a bottle of fush in bathroom for the season until next service as dealer is quite a distance and fault is only a slight inconvenience. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced anything similar or has any ideas if I'm missing anything obvious. Van is a Bailey Rnger GT60 2010 model. Any thoughts/comments appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Scrancat

Evidently its to do with the speed you pour the water in when filling the flush tank. In a previous life on a different forum I saw a few posts similar to yours and the upshot was if you pour it in too quick the water can overflow, bypass the pipe and cause the puddle you describe.

We have a Bailey of similar vintage to yours and haven't experienced the problem but have always taken care not to go too fast when filling it up.

Regards

Dave

Thanks for the reply. Will look at this but still dont understand how all the water could end up out the tank and on the floor. Also on first fill up I put the cup of flush in first (which would have been a slow addition) and then topped up with water my usual way ( a few fills from a 1.5 litre water bottle). The water on floor was mixed with the pink flush and the tank was completely empty.
Cheers

Mine was the same I think you will find that the pump is leaking (common fault) if you top up the tank and open your cassette
door. you will see water trickling from the blue pump just above - this in turn fills the cassette compartment with water which then
leaks onto your toilet floor. I think you will find is an annual event unless you can drain down the pump by disconnecting the pipe
which supplies the pump and draining seperately . mine too is a 2010 Ranger Gt60

Depends if your caravan was subjected to an exceptionally exposed cold area. The toilet pump on this type of toilet installed in
the GT60 (also others makes/models ) does not completely drain when you drain the tank. The only way to completely drain
the pump is to disconnect the short piece of hose to the blue pump people on here have improvised with taps etc to overcome
this problem. Have spoken to Thetford on this subject they tell me that a batch of pumps were not manufactured correctly and
a new pump will sort the problem out. They also suggested some anti-freeze solution (they gave me the technical specs but could not give me manufacturers name ) did not note them down as not normal car antifreeze which you must not use because it would damage pump seals. They have told me it should not happen again. But if the pump does not drain completely and we have exceptionally cold winters like we have just experienced I cant see how the pump will not freeze. My dealers has said he has
done 15 pumps already this year so its quite a common fault. See my previous post on 29/3/11 entitled Victim of the C230 toilet freeze up of pump on page 4 of this forum.

hi our first trip away this year also resulted in the same problem despite draining down tank via the black rubber tube, if you google thetford sevice agents near you you can book it in and the pump will be replaced free of charge it only takes about 30 mins the old pump was sent back by the service agent i belive there is a design fault, they didnt even require a signature hope this is of some help.h.
