Toilet Leak?

We have the Thetford toilet with the pull along handle(waste of time really!) anyway we have on going problems with it leaking from we assume the seal that connects it to the toilet bowl.

Does anyone else have this problem and if so any advice please.

We have bought a new seal but after experiments at home with water it doesn't leak, so we were wondering if something isn't lining up properly when the toilet cassette is pushed into place inside the locker????

All and any suggestions welcome!

Are you sure its coming from the seal.i had the same problem of water leaking into the compartment but it was coming from the pump and running down the cassette and filling the hole underneath the cassette.Traced it to a hairline crack on the pipe connection on bottom of the pump, pump replaced under warranty.

Yes we're sure it's from the seal (have had to clean up the spillage when the toilet tank is removed from the locker-not good!)

We think that possibly the seal got bent over slightly when pushing the cassette back into the locker, which would cause the problem, have now used the Thetford lubricant around the seal to see if this will help??

Fingers crossed

Angela,

I think you are refering to the Thetford C250 - and yes it leaks - mine is on a brand new van and when the tank is due for emptying I find about a mug full of liquid in the bottom of the compartment.

We are not alone, there was an earlier post on here where they said not only they were suffering the same, but that they had spoken with others on a site they were at and everyone reorted problems.

I believe that this is a known fault - I emailed Thetford via their website, they promise a response within two working days - that was over a week ago and still no reply.

My van is going in under warranty in two weeks and this is the major fault for rectification - It will be interesting to find out the root cause, obviously the casette is not sealing to the bowl mechanism.

Please keep us posted on any solution that you find and I will report back when mine is hopefully fixed.

Regards

Jon

Hi, does everybody realise that Thetford toiet products have a 3 year warranty , if you have it repaired at a Thetford reconised service centre ,ie most caravan dealers

Have had the same problem with the Thetford toilet. The leak is almost certainly from the seal, and seems to leak only when you sit on the toilet. In addition a crescent shape raised ridge has appeared on the front inside of the toilet bowl. My dealer has sent a photo of the damage to Thetford and awaiting a reply. It does seem that this model has problems as we met two other caravanners with the same swivel electric toilet, with wheeled waste container, who had experienced leaks

Thanks for that Andrew, I have e-mailed Paul McNulty at Thetford, he was very helpful when the indicator light to show the toilet needed emptying didn't work! He is 'out of the office' at the mo on hols and has said he will get back to me on his return.

So we are off next weekend for 2 weeks with a dodgy loo!!!

might be better off leaving the cassette out and just putting a bucket under the hole!!

I'm glad this topic has cropped up, I have just got back from a 2 week break and thought one of the children had used the toilet whilst I was out emptying the cassette.

This happened on a few occassions before I realised that the toilet was to blame and after mopping out the compartment and sraying with disinfectant I will have to look at the seal arrangement. I will keep upto date with this topic.

best regards, Martin

Progress report as promised - our van is in under warranty this week to have this problem solved.

The dealer has just phoned - they have replaced the seals (presumably this is the modification required) and it still leaks - they say that they are having to obtain a complete new toilet from Thetford.

This 'new' model would appear to be a backward step ??

There has been several instances of the cassette not being fitted correctly in that it is not 'high enough' to adequately meet the fixed part. The solution is to fix a board underneath the cassette to lift it to get a better fit.

Thetford and or dealer will sort out easily

Update on our Thetford casette (C250) - Thetford have been out to the dealers and replaced the whole unit - they tried replacing the seals but it still leaked !

Whilst it is the same model that has been fitted I notice that the connection from the 'bowl' within the casette compartment is now a different design (casette design unchanged) so it would appear that they have had a real design fault and have had to re-design ???

I am now a happy bunny !
