I got one of these for Xmas. When playing around with it i keyed in our trip to France in the summer. Despite living in Dorset it kept sending me up to Dover to cross the chanel. When i keyed in Via Le Havre it sent me to Dover/Calais and then back to Le Havre, rather a long way round. Any help would be appreciated, when i emailed TomTom they told me to key in via Le Havre but this does not solve the problem.

Any help would be apreciated

Would it be worth putting in the via as 'Portsmouth-Le Havre' or trying inserting both seperatly as 'via's.

Mine an old Tom Tom so not sure how the new one sorts stuff out

Andrew, the TomTom is doing its right job as you asked it to go via Le Havre, after crossing the channel.

To change your departure point, put in a Travel Via Portsmouth, and it should reroute you

I have done this and it sends me Portsmouthto Cherbourg. I will try again putting in two VIA's, but i think it only accepts one. Thanks for your help

I think TomTom may have a thing about Dorset.

Living on the border of Dorset and somerset, I had two visitors each using tomTom and entering our post code correctly. They were directed to a point some 12 miles to the east, and this point was also shown when we eventually tried to re-programme.

Having been associated with flight instruments in my youth, I am still slightly brainwashed with the mantra from those days "trust your instruments and not your feelings" and - for many reasons shown on other threads - still prefer to buy new maps each year rather than rely on sat nav.

Andrew its not just tom tom. I have a garmin and i live in Tiverton Devon it still routes me to dover calias wher ever i want to go in France.

The map does show the ferry routes but does not route any of them other than dover calias.

Dont see its a problem I route to the port in uk and then whilst waiting route to destination in france and when you get to the other side so to speek it will re route and away you go

Thanks for that. I thought that what you suggested may be the solution. TomTom want me to ring them on Tuesday to try and resolve as i dont think they understood what i am trying to do.

That's not very kind. Planks are extremely useful.....

I had a similar problem a while back when I upgraded Autoroute. To go anywhere from home it took me to Ireland and back first!

This demonstrates the fundamental flaw with all these systems - they have no brain! A human can look at what they propose to do and tell whether it makes sense, a mchine just follows its programming.

Many people seem to have a remarkable faith in technology, and we will soon have a lot of people driving around who have not the faintest idea where anything is, because they just follow the instructions step by step. If their electrical system fails in the middle of the country, they will not be able to tell the breakdown services where they are!

Just looked at the item mentioned above, and it is yet anothe illegal copy of databases already available, mostly for free.

It is also illegally using the Caravan Club banner to try and give it more credibility.
