I want to buy a torque wrench (dont want any wheels falling off now do we)

I'm a little confused as to what I actually need. Having looked on the internet for information, these seem to come in either 3/8" or 1/2". Does is matter which size I get?

I also assume I'll need a socket for the wheel nuts. I have an s6 Pageant Burgundy with alloy wheels, does anyone know what size socket I'll need?

many thanks

Hello Richard,

The sizes you quote relate to the size of the square spigot that connects to the required tubular socket for the wheel nuts/studs.

In general the 1/2" model may be slightly longer, which will give you better leverage, but not by much.

Ultimately what you need to ensure is the torque capacity of the wrench encompasses the settings required for your wheel nuts.

Out of choice I personally would go for the 1/2" model.

I do strongly suggest you go for one from a reputable manurfacturer as you will have greater confidence in the accuracy of its setting, unless you want to go to the expense of having it profesionally calibrated - which might cost more than the wrench!.

great stuff cheers for that, does anyone konw what size socket I'm going to need?
Hi Richard

You will find that most caravans require either 17mm or 19mm sockets but the majority of standard wheel nuts need a 19mm socket. You will also find that 6 sided sockets give you better grip on the wheel studs.Halfords tools are excellent quality and reasonably priced and some have a lifetime guarantee.

Good Luck

Before you buy an individual socket for your caravan wheels, check the size of car wheel nuts as well. There is a readily available wheel wrench at most car accessory store that is telescopic with a rubber grip handle. This comes with a reversible 17mm/19mm double ended socket. You well find that one of these fits your car too. The extendible handle can be invaluable in loosening very tight wheelnuts, where the toolkit items don't give enough leverage. I keep mine in the car all the time fro this reason
