Touring from Innsbruck to Venice

Hi There,

We are travelling to Italy in a couple of weeks and was looking to travel through Austria. Looking at the map we were thinking of going from Innsbruck to Venice via the SS51 passing through Belluno rather than the E45 passing through Trento. Has anyone ever used this road and if so what is it like?

We would travel from Innsbruck on the Brenner Pass and stop somewhere on Lake Garda and then go onto Venice from there. I would think this is the most direct and caravan friendly route.
