Tow ball required???

Hi all, I have read up on the stabiliser 3004 which is coming on the newer outfit, I was planning to clean the current tow ball which is a couple of years old. Do I need an extended neck alko tow ball or will the older cleaner unit be ok. The unit it on a passat and was a witter unit. the balls are £25 which is a lot compared to a normal unit...........many thanks

Allan

If your existing towball is a standard Type A50-1 one which measures 55mm from the bolt-on face to the centre of the towball, it will not provide the necessary clearance that the AlKo 3004 requires and will need to be replaced by a Type A50-X.

When i recently had a new towbar fitted, i asked the price of a new ALKO ball.

The expensive one was the ALKO, but he said a copy was available at around

Hi Allan what`s your location? are you anywhere near Tyne & Wear as I have two AlKo bals in my garage, Posting would be to exspensive due to weight.

Sorry I live miles away, I think I will explore ebay but cheers anyway

Hi Allan, my old unit had the alko 1300 fitted for which I needed the Type A50-X tow ball but I have just bought a new unit with the alko 3004 fitted. When the dealer checked my tow ball (still with the alko sticker attached) against the one supplied it was shorter by about 15mm.

Hope this helps
