Tow bar fitted -is it a modification?

Should I advise my insurance company that I have had a tow bar fitted to my car. Is that a modification?

I always do - better safe than sorry - gives them one less loophole should the time come.

Yes, I always do and also let them know about towing a caravan, just to be on the safe side as Neal says

My insurance, asked me to tell them. If and when i had it fitted.

Its definally a mod as parts from the bumper are often removed, to fit the bar

I have never had my premium go up after fitting a tow bar.

Wonder if insurance companies want to know about factory fitted towbars. After all, you have not "modified" the vehicle if towbar was included in original build.

No premium increase, but i was sent new paper work.

I renewed the insurance at Xmas, for the old xtrail, changed to the 171bhp xtrail feb, cost 30% extra plus, another

you should always tell them you intend to use the car to tow.

as far as modifications go, you should tell them if you paint a coach line on your car, thats how ridiculous it is.
