Are spectators able to join the testing event over the week?
Particularly interested in 1 category, as my new tug is in there!! Will I get the vehicle before the test???
Hope the various technology bits like electric tow bars, radar systems and hitching aids like all round cameras are given a shakedown.

I'm afraid it's a closed testing venue, so we can't permit spectators.
Any kit that the cars come with, such as towing aids, cameras etc, will be evaluated. Regarding the Disco 5 question – well, this is what we are all wondering! It's significantly lighter than before and more expensive than many of its rivals. It will be very interesting to see how it performs.

Interesting that the Caravan club's tow car of the 2017 in the over £45k bracket was the BMW X5 xDrive40d M Sport, it beat the Discovery and the Range Rover.
Not that interesting asin the case of the Discovery, it was one of the run-out D4 Landmark model essentially a 12 yr old vehicle despite its upgrades over the years.
Interesting as the last time that Practical Caravan tested the BMW X5 was 2014, it beat the LR Discovery even though the BMW is an old model also in the Caravan Club awards. Which award is more prestigious?Mogwyth said:
Neither to me, as I would never buy a car based on its awards, I buy the vehicle that suits my needs and the X5 might be better at some things but key to me is off-road ability having a farm.
And besides a friend of mine had a new X5 a couple of years ago, it spent so much time a the dealers it made Land Rovers look reliable :lol:

My friend didn't think that when recovered back from France twice with his Discovery 4Mogwyth said:
I admit the LR is biased for more off road than the others , but others will do alot more with the right tyres, LR are fitted with all season whereas the other are road summer tyres

Most of us are know of Stonehenge in wiltshire, Experts are still unsure of its full purpose, but it does seem to align with the sun on the summer solstice, and so it does seem likely to be some of time piece, and perhaps other alignments may have been used to trigger other important events for people some 3000 years BC.
What is less well known is there are numerous other ancient structures many of stone but also of other materials scattered throughout the UK and other parts of the world, so its not beyond the realms of possibility that they too were used to tell the locals it was time for a particular traditional activity.
One of the most interesting sites that has only recently been discovered in the UK has been called the Autocircle. Its existence was only discovered when it was found that a small group of people descended from nomads had been keeping an ancient tradition alive by performing a set of secret rites.
The reason the Autocircle had not been spotted earlier was because it was not a permanent structure, The descendants actually recreate it annually, and dismantle it again afterwards. It only came to light as a result of satellite photography.
Further research by the Home Office's department for cultural diversity, seems to suggest the the rituals was more of a trading event whereby the Nomads compare different animals for different jobs.
Over time the Nomads became scattered, and different sects broke away from the original stem group. We see similar behaviours to day with which arose from an annual gypsy gathering as the The Appleby Horse Fair. But the older more original Nomad group has been secretly continuing their more ancient rites.
Nomads can of course be found in many parts of the world, and in particularly north Africa, when they move locations their movement is known as a "Caravan". This is perhaps no surprise then to find the same word used to describe the hobby we celebrate on this forum.
But the Autocircle seems to be related to spring time activity where modern Nomads compare tow vehicles. and the satellite must have picked up the Tow Car Of The Year trials. :woohoo:

What many people dont realise is that Stonehenge isnt the full story. When visiting, you can see ancient paths to other smaller circles and such in the distance. Archaeology suggests a configuration of roads and lines all radiating out from the Henge

One of the reasons I have the V8 4.4 is that it is far more reliable than the diesels engine wise.
Yes you are right you can n increase even a 2 wheel drive cars abilities off road with the right tyres, however in general I run my Discovery with road biased tyres, as I do solo 400 mile round trips once a month to meetings and it still deals with the farm work pretty well, I do have a second set of wheels with off road tyres if needed.
