Hi Adam. I have towed an Elddis Crusader SuperSirocco ( MTPLM 1750kgs ) for 4yrs+ with a number of Volvo V70 models. The first was a 1997 V70 T5 CD Auto but with a 1600kgs maximum braked towing limit, the second was a 2000 (W) V70 2.4T SE Geartronic, the third and current car is a V70 2.4ltr D5 SE Geartronic.
Each and every one of the Volvo V70's towed the caravan - effortlessly.
The latter two Volvo V70's had a maximum braked towing limit of 1800kgs but I understand the the latest generation V70's have a 2000kgs maximum braked towing limit.
I have also towed other twin axle caravans with various other cars including a 3ltr Capri Auto and 2.8i Auto Granada Ghia X Estates.

Hi Seth. The Capri 2.8i was a totally different animal to the 3ltr Capri and other than for a very limited number for a very special event ( Mr Ford the XXXXXXXth) from the states coming over to England and requiring Automatic cars the 2.8i was never built as a regular production car. There were seemingly only about 28 of them ever produced.
My 1978 3ltr Auto Capri had been sorted at the rear end and the whole car was lowered and stiffened.
It was a Personalised Classification winner at The Capri International Show at Stanford Hall in the mid 80's
It was an awesome tow-car despite the critics of the marque would have you believe.
Yes the smaller engined ones were rather sloppy and needed a right kick up the jacksy.
My 3ltr Auto (Oyster Gold Metallic with a Tobacco vinyl roof) was sold-on to a guy in Ireland with 245,000+miles on it and still went like the proverbial off of a shovel.

I'm with Seth - Capris never graced anywhere - they were point & squirt with cart spring suspension - and rotted quicker than the Escorts they were based on.

Yeah and im with Roger, cologne 2.8v6 and Essex 3.0 litre v6 even back then were far from at the top of their game. There were thousands of 2.8i,s made.I had two,my best friend had two. They were everywere at one time. The memorys, all the acclaimed 165hp of the 2.8 in real world terms 115 at the wheels. We used to have a spare float engine because the bottom ends were that crap.Entertaining at the time I suppose.

well i was an Alfa fan, but I'm not knocking the Capri.never owned one but drove many from a broadspeed 3.1l to both 3.0l and 2.8i and indeed auto and manual versions of the 3.0l.. still remember early tests of the 2.8i complaining about it lack of lowdow grunt compared to the 3.0l mk1 looked best to me proper coupe with boot. oh the good ole days..hehehe

Hi Adam
I tow a Swift twin axle 1860MTPLM with an Audi Q5 3.0 tdi. It's fantastic to tow with, loads of torque and plenty of space for 3 kids, wife and the dog. I would thoroughly recommend this as a tow and solo car. I'm up and down the motorways in mine all the time with work and it's very smooth and refined. 44MPG as well which is really good. I couldn't stretch my budget to the A6 equivalent model but I have no doubt the A6 would make for a great tow car.
