Tow cars from Japan or with Japanese sourced equipment

Having a look round at possible new towcars I find that many of the obvious candidates - Santa Fe, Toyoto etc. are now on extremely long delivery due to cut-back in build due to shortage of components following the Japanese earthquake. I've been told there is no UK stock of new Santa Fe at all - perhaps the odd one in a dealer - and deliveries are being quoted as anything up to 6 months.

So if you are looking to give yourself a new tow car for Christmas - better start now.

I thought Toyotas were built in the EU and the Santa Fe in Korea so not sure how the Japanese earthquake would have any effect on delivery. Besides I don't think that there are any car manufacturing plants any where near the earthquake area so production would not have been affected. I think a dealer is telling porkies!

The santa fe was on a long waiting list before the earthquake.

And any car supplied with japan base spares WILL be affected.

Cars are built all over by the Japanese, but many parts, and cars are still made in Japan.

The earth quake is bad news for everyone. Nuclear power station rebuilds in this country included.

Toyota manufacturing plant just outside Derby only last week said it was going onto short time or was cutting its production down due to shortages in supply due to the situation in Japan.

Reason given for earthquake affecting Hyundai deliveries is that most if not all of electrical systems are sourced from Japan.

It's not only Japanese manufacturers that are affected. The GM plants in Zaragoza and Eisenach which build the Corsa were down for a couple of days for lack of critical electronic components.

A lot of Japanese electronics are sourced from Korea. It is made under a Japanese brand name in Korea. Sony source a lot of parts from Korea. The other place of course is China. Cheaper to make it ther than in Japan.

most hiyundia are made in brazil as a lot off cars had 7 now and the last 2 came from ther as the dealer told us the delay was for the shipping and not from korrea.

hyundia/Kia are made in a lot of countries, but unless they built a plant in brazil last year, then the dealer sounds like a good saleman
