Hi All,

Does anyone have experience of towing with either a HONDA crv 2.00 Ltr Automatic or a TOYOTA RAV 4 automatic as these two cars are competing for purchase

Avoid the petrol Honda, it has no low down pull and will soon annoy with high revs it requires to pull. Better bet is to get the new diesel, that is a belter.

Don't know about the Rav

Pete, hasn't the staff of Practical caravan got (or recently had) a Rav 4 - Diesel I think. I think they like it but towbar is very low due to deep reardoor/low rear floor!

There are limitations with the Honda as the auto honda has a tow limit of only 1200kg. The 2002-2004 model years have got a max nose weight limit of 60kg (it has gone up to 100kg for 2005).I would expect 20mpg or a bit less when towing.

I have a manual 2ltr 2002 and have found no problems as reported by Andy. I have a 1350kg van and can tow in 5th on open roads most of the time. I can't speak for the auto. The Honda has been fantastically reliable, with no faults in 35000 miles and still on original tyres. I have found that the service from Honda dealers is very good.

I tow with a Honda CRV and it is a great car for towing. I would definately recommend the CRV before the Rav 4.

It is a comfortable car for towing long/short distances and has plenty of power.

Good luck.
