tow cars

Hi i have just purchesed a nissan terrano ii 2.7td lwb 98 on a R with 84000 miles fsh to tow my new swift kerrera 590 going to france in july any one got any experiance of these cars anything i should check thanks colin

Hi Colin, we have a 97R Maverick (Ford badged Terrano) which has now done 121k. We bought it nearly new to replace another Maverick. The only trouble in all the time we have owed it was a fuel pump, expensive, but that was at 109k so can't complain.

We tow a 1650kg Elddis 630 twin axle with it with no probs at all infact do most of my overtaking going uphill ;O)

Couple of things ..

They do like fresh oil so change regularly, I do mine 3 times a year

Mine tends to wear front tyres on the inner edges so worth keeping an eye on them although it's probably my wife's driving ;O)

Hi Colin,

If you have the manual gearbox I see no problem.

My Terrano had an autogearbox which was great for towing untill it came to a hill, because the radiator has 2/3 of it covered by the autogearbox cooler & aircon unit, there was not enough of the radiator left to cool the engine, resulting in the temp gauge going into the red.

Apart from that it pulled my 1600kg van at 70mph in France
