Towball limit on Nissan X-Trail

Hi

I drive a Nissan X-Trail with a tow ball limit of 100kg. I tow an Avondale Dart 510/5. Can anyone tell me what my ideal nose weight should be? In the manual it says adjust the nose weight to 50kg or above. I usually set it about 70kg, is this about right or should I increase it? Any feedback appreciated.

Hello Jake,

It is generally accepted that the greater the nose weight, the better the tow, but you have to be aware that her are legal limits that must be complied with.

Both the caravan and the car manufacture will have set upper limits for the maximum nose weight, and you must select a weight that is compliant with the lowest of either limit.

Hi Jake

we have an X-Trail 136 DCI Sport, and tow a Bailey Senator Indiana.

This is usually loaded to around 1400kg (85% match). We took the rig on a CC manoeuvring course, and the instructor said to increase noseweight to as much as possible - it tows much better at 95kg (6.8% of actual laden weight) than at 75kg. Ann.
