hi all hope you are all well im thinking of changing my two 7 pin plugs to a 13 plug ive been useing a adapter but its a big ugly thing i have to strap it to the a frame .thanks all keep well hope we have a better year next year stay safe cheers .tom

I did one some years ago, needed much patience and accurate cutting to make sure it all fits. To make things a little easier you can now get plugs with twin wire entry.

SEE

When done it’s much neater with less chance of failure, Good luck.

Changed mine when I rewired my motor, a few years back. using dedicated loom. Found it was an excuse to rewire van back to the lighting fuse box in the van. Lot neater than the black insulation tape on repairs, I had to do when I dragged the lighting cable more than once. It would've got to the point of not reaching the socket.

When we changed the caravan to one with a 13 pin socket we used a converter until we changed the car and never had any problems. It possibly depends on how long you expect to keep the car as to whether converting the plugs is worthwhile.

Back in 2009, i changed to 13 pin after the connections melted in the 12S socket!

Fiddly job, mainly due to me feeding both cable into the same socket rather than changing the entire cable at the same time.

The neatest job would be to replace the two cables with the 13 pin cable. You can then wire up the socket away from the car, then feed the cable through and trace and replace connections to the original within the car . Not sure how much it would cost for a mobile techie todo the job... might be worth a phone call?

Ah OK, I was visualising the car with 2 x 7 pin that needed changing. I think my comment would be the same, to replace the leads on the caravan with a single lead to feed the 13 pin plug, and again how much would a mobile techie charge to complete the job?
