I recently reversed (slowly) into a concrete post, hitting it with my tow ball, which had its rubber protected cover on. Unfortunately, the tow ball still ended up with some scratches. Can anyone tell me if this will affect towing our caravan - we have a modern van with Alko hitch etc? (Or do I have to confess to my partner?!)

How bad do they have to be? You can definitely feel them but don't seem deep - the rubber cover saved them. Should I get a professional to check them out?

If you hit the concrete hard you may have damaged the towball bolts or knocked the towbar or towball out of alignment so if I were you in that case I'd pop along to a local garage and ask them to put the car on the ramp to have a look at the towbar.
If it was more of a gentle nudge as long as the towball is clean a few minor scratches shouldn't make much difference, if there is a creaking sound when towing you may need to replace the towball.
