Looking into buying a new car soon to replace my Vectra. I have a budget of around £10000 and want a car (not a 4x4 or an MPV or a HGV or so on...)

The shortlist at the moment contains an MG ZT CTDI 135 Auto, a Volvo S60 D5, a Skoda Superb 2.8/5 diesel/petrol, a Renault Vel Satis 2.2DCi, Vauxhall Omega 3.2/2.6 estate or a Mondeo estate TDCi 130. Does anybody have any opinions of any of the above cars, or any others that could tow my 1300kg coachman with ease.

Cheers

James

I use a S80 D5 and get about 28 - 30 mpg and always have plenty of reserve power. Can't be bad if you are able to overtake a slow moving vehicle travelling at 35mph on a hill while towing a 12' caravan

Hi James, we have a S60 D5 which tows our Eccles Topaz (1318kg max) with relative ease. Around 40-45 mpg solo, 25-30 towing and loads of mid-range torque. Car in SE spec comes pretty much fully loaded with climate, leather, cruise etc. Overall an excellent car! Rgds, Simon

I have a Mondeo TDCi estate, great car and have had no problems in 36000 miles(in 1Year inc 3000 in france) in towing or solo.

One of the advantages is that it is a reasonably popular car with lots of choice around, some of the other makes whilst probably as good but not the choice around. Hope this helps
