Hello All,
Has anyone got or tried towing a caravan with a Volkeswagon Transporter Van. I'm thinking of buying one shortly and was wondering if theres any info or guideance out there. I have 'tentitively' asked about and I'm told the Vans can pull 1800kg ?? (thats 130bhp Van)
I'm about to sell my 04 Freelander TD4 Sport and it tows my Van (which is 1450kg fully laden) ok but we were looking for a Transporter Van to suit my Hobby too. Any info guys ???

hi,
providing you check the weight plates on the transporter van regarding gross train weight, axel and trailer weights, there should be no problem towing your van with it, our motorhome which was based on a VW LT35 115bhp had a max trailer weight of 3ton it towed a granada on a car transporter, and the fleetwood colchester van (before we sold it), without any problems.
the only fly in the ointment if there is one is that some sites do not like commercial vehicles while this does not seem to be a big problem it may be wise to advise any site you go on what the towing vehicle is when booking,

We have friends who use a Transporter - I believe it is the 130bhp engine. They tow a twin axel Bailey - don't know which model. He really rates the VW. We tow a 1295Kg Swift Charisma 230 with a 115bhp Vivaro with no issues. The Vivaro's max towong limit is 2000kg.
Regarding commercial vehicles on-site - we've always been up front when booking & have never been refused.

Hey thanks for the info guys. I wouldn't use the Transporter for anything other than private use (or motorbiking) to be honest.
It isn't a business vehicle but I suppose site owners wouldn't know that.
Thanks very much for the replys, much apprieciated.
