Prof, the anybody you are referring to is clearly me. Considering the fact that this forum has 34217 users, your suggestion that I should refrain from further comments and stop reading this thread is by no means a “simple way to curtail its further expansion”, and your suggestion that I am trying to dictate to others is even more ludicrous.

We are now even more off topic, the newcomer OP has failed to respond to the last 45 replies to the post he started, we’ve had strong differences of opinion, apologies from various contributors despite their irreconcilable differences of opinion, a very well respected moderator has taken strong offence to a couple of off-the-cuff, tongue in cheek comments made by an equally respected forum member, yet you still feel the need to post condescending remarks about others.

I stand by my well-meant suggestion that this thread has run its course, and is now in even more danger of being remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Thank you Beehpee you are absolutely right I am totally confused now and looking into motorhomes I hoped for an answer to my question but I guess from the responses that "It is up to me" . I consider myself a good driver(don;t we all) if a tad fast at times, I have limited towing experience, extensive driving with 50k plus miles some years. I really enjoy our caravan which is why I posted originally as I want to safe on the road for both us and other road users

When you provided the accurate details of your proposed outfit you did get an answer. It was that the combination of Car and caravan was not a good one. Whether you like it or not that’s a fact based on several experienced people’s advice and norms for towing. Did you look at any towing matching websites? These aren’t always favoured by some, but they do aid decision making. Selecting an outfit isn’t an exact science but the risks of having an unsuitable outfit can be avoided by seeking advice and reading technical advice sheets as published on line by the two clubs.

A while back I sold the outfit and stopped caravanning. I too looked at motor homes and price apart I really didn’t think one would suit our lifestyle. Packing up each day as you go out, unable to park easily in UK, beach and nature reserve Car parks with height barriers, narrow rural roads etc all convinced me that at present a motor home wasn’t for us. So we bit the bullet and rejoined Tugging For Us

There does seem to be some variation in opinion within the posts however I believe that I need a tow car with a kerb weight of about 1920 kilos - any recommendations. We do prefer a higher driving position offered by a 4x4 rather than a car.

But you don't necessarily need a four wheel drive as our Kuga sits high like yours but isn't a 4x4 drive. Touchwood we have never needed four wheel drive either !

Craig , I thought all the Kugas were torque on demand ie 4x4 but not the permanent old fashioned LR type. Or is yours 2wd?

On the TV advert for the Kuga it says that you can get the Kuga in 2 wheel drive. Does anyone know if these versions still have the all-wheel drive (AWD) system and are they front of rear wheel drive?

No , mine is 2.o litre zetec tdi front 2 wheel drive . I sometimes wish i had the all wheel drive as there's quite a bit of power under the bonnet when you put your foot down.
