Towing mirrors abroad

I have been told that I will have to change my mirrors for ones that have a EU mark on them before I leave for France next friday.

Is this correct, and if so which do I buy?

Also do I get convex and flat, or both flat mirrors?

Thanks Malcolm

That may be so, but I really think the powers that be have more to worry about than to check whether mirrors have an E-mark (not an EU-mark, by the way - it has nothing to do with the EU).

To give you a decent field of view I'd always recommend a convex mirror on the passenger's side. Whether convex or flat on the driver's side is really a matter of personal preference. The convex one gives a larger field of view but shows objects further away than they really are, which irritates some people.

Thanks Lutz, your advice is much appreciated.

I don't think I'll go to the bother or expense of changing them.

Thanks again Malcolm.

Of course you will be fined in the UK for not obeying every single useless rule to come out of the EU. That is why we have an army of enforcers. No other country bothers, but then again we are stupid sheep.

As I pointed out in my reply, this regulation is not an EU regulation but a UN Commission for Europe one, so if you want to blame anyone, go to Geneva not to Brussels.
