Could anyone out there enlighten me in regard to the type of towing mirror. Should I buy flat mirrors or convex mirrors. I have heard good things about Milenco Grand Aero mirrors but am unsure which to buy flat or convex. Your views would be appreciated.
Nick, I expect you will get answers from three distinct groups. Some like flat, some convex and some one of each. Me? It has to be flat so I get a true image. However, I also have a small convex clip-on blind spot mirror for the nearside.
I use the Milenco G.A. mirrors and use flat for correct vision. These are excellent, used on continent and at home with no problems. Any blind spots, I find are covered by my car mirrors, ( Land Rover Disco TD5)
I have the Giant Milenco mirrors, only recently purchased. and used for a couple of hours, but vey pleased with them, fitted well to my Smax, no real shaking, and good vision, I like flat as I get a better perspective.
As a trainee driving instructor can i put forward my thoughts on flat or convex.My suggestion is that you have whatever combination you have on the towing vehicle,the reasoning behind this is simple when you drive you look or should look very fequently into your mirrors and your brain is attuned to interpret the image that you see for this reason if you have the same glass in your towing mirrors your brain will correctly interpret the image.If you have different then you will not correctly interpret the image.I hope that makes sense
As a good compromise between maintaining a true image on the one hand and having a respectable field of view on the other, it's best to have a flat mirror on the driver's side and a convex one on the passenger's side.
