Towing on the A35

In a couple of weeks time we are having our main 2 week summer hols in Cornwall.We have to collect our caravan from storage in Dorset first and after that it is my intention to use the A31 to link up with the A35 and eventually come out onto the A30/M5 junc 29-31, I know that road very well as we go to the west country a lot,but beleive it or not in all the years I have towed I have never used the A35.Does anybody have experience of using this route and is the A35 a good road to tow on???

I tow our van on the A35 from Dorchester to the A30 then M5 frequently and have never noticed anything of concern. The only possible place to be particularly careful is on the A35 between Bridport and Lyme where it can get extremely windy. In that case, just go carefully.

Used to keep our van in storage on the south ccoast in the 90's and used the A31/ A35/ A303 then A30 without problem. The A35 can be a bit twisty in places but never had a problem with it. We used to alweays stop at the Picnic area on the A30 at Honiton where there is a nice transport cafe used by the truckers. It is a converted caravan but always take the view if the truckers use it , then it must be good

I towed our van from Weymouth via the A35 and A30 to the M5 north in July gone first time using this route no problems at all. We travelled down on the M1 J15a to Oxford then down to Weymouth but decided to travel the A35 because of the British GP at Silverstone on the weekend we travelled back

I was down that way a couple of weeks ago along that route it was find except for roadworks other side of Dorchester - but not a major hold-up maybe 10 Mins although SatNav was telling me there were miles of tailbacks - it lied!!

I agree with all the other coments but chideock is one to watch out for going down the steep hill into it is ok but the speeed camera at the bottom you must be carefull of,and worst of all is the speed camera on the way out of the village as it is right at the bottom of a very nasty hill.

you can't get a run up because of the blessed camera and you can drop into second gear as you climb the hill.There is a few other steepish hills as you get the other side of Lyme.Happy hols.
