Towing speed limit in France

I seem to recall reading somewhere recently that the French speed limit for towing a caravan on the autoroutes is being reduced to the equivalent of 50mph. Can anyone shed any light on this, please?

I don't know of any plans in general for the speed limit in France to be reduced to 80kph (50mph). However, it already applies outside built-up areas on roads other than autoroutes if the total train weight of the outfit exceeds 3500kg or if the driver has not held a licence for more than 2 years. Otherwise, the limit under those same conditions is 90kph.

Lutz - thanks very much. I'm not a speed merchant but my outfit is happier cruising at 60mph than 50, and you have more of a sense of getting somewhere! Graham

Not so, according to the AA and the Caravan Club, and they would know. Trouble is France goes in for odd short term 'experiments' from time to time. This may be one of those. Fact remains that official limit for cars is still 130kph on the autoroutes in the dry, even if you are towing. Remeber also that on autoroutes France has a minum limit of 80kph (50 mph).
